Entry from: Livingstone, Zambia Entry Title: "Out of botswana into zambia" Entry: "Tuesday 1st December Ferry across the Zambezi. Leave Botswana, entering Zambia. Arriving at the crossing point we were envisaged a carefully constructed port servicing a P&O ferry equivalent. Our imagination had omitted the African influence! A dirt track sloped into the Zambezi, trucks; lorries cars litter the area with no discernable order. Women sheltered under nearby trees selling drinks from their cooler box, men swarmed around offering merchandise to our 16 strong party. The supposed ferry was a dilapidated wooden raft only large enough for two vehicles and 30 passengers standing amongst the debris. Amid the mayhem we managed to snake through the other ten vehicles straight onto the ferry ignoring the horn tooting and fist shaking from those who wait had probably been hours rather than minutes. The bestowal of some magazines to the ferry manager explained our right of passage. The afternoon brought a chance for an elephant encounter. Rescued from Captivity in Zimbabwe these five adults and 3 infants were used for rides and education. It was sad to hear they would never be released back into the wild, but they did roam the park and had freedom if they wanted it. One female disappeared of with a wild herd for ten ...
